The Davidson County Democrats welcome all Davidson County citizens to get involved in the party and help make a better tomorrow for all. Below please find some Frequently Asked Questions about getting involved and links that will help you Join the Party.
What is the Davidson County Democratic Party (DCDP)?
The Davidson County Democratic Party, founded in 1812, is affiliated with the Tennessee Democratic Party and the Democratic National Committee. It holds as its joint missions the election of qualified Democratic candidates; increased quality of life for Davidson County residents; and support of Democratic principles at home and beyond.
The Davidson County Democratic Party is focused on organizing and mobilizing Democrats in Davidson County. We accomplish this by aiding Democratic candidates when they run for office and by conducing ongoing efforts to recruit and educate members and the public.
How do I get involved in the DCDP?
While many people get involved in politics by volunteering for a Democratic candidate's campaign, there are ways to get involved in building a better Democratic Party and a better tomorrow:
- Come to a DCDP event. We work to have at least one public event a month, including monthly legislative breakfasts when the Tennessee legislature is in session, campaign forums and social events.
- Volunteer in our office. We have opportunities to help with events and to work to build the Party through database entry and constituent outreach.
- Join a committee. The DCDP welcomes volunteers for it s committees, which include:
Precinct Organization: This committee coordinates all activities for Get Out the Vote efforts; grassroots organization; recruitment and training of volunteers; voter registration and other political organizational efforts.
Finance: This committee assists, coordinates and plans any matters relating to finance or fundraising. This committee also assists the Treasurer with any of these functions as needed.
Constitution, Bylaws and Rules: This committee recommends changes to the Bylaws as well as drafts any changes to Bylaws. The committee also considers rules and procedures of operation for the Executive Committee (link).
Program: This committee plans educational and social programs at regular and special meetings of the Executive Committee (link) as well as plans programs for any other activities.
Who governs the DCDP and what is the Executive Committee?
The Davidson County Democratic Party is governed by the Davidson County Democratic Executive Committee (DCDEC). The executive committee is composed of one man and one woman elected from each of the 35 Metropolitan Nashville-Davidson County Council districts. The executive committee is elected by ballot at the regular biennial Democratic Primary held every two years (in accordance with Section 1816 of the Metropolitan Charter and Private Act of the Tennessee State Legislature concerning such primary.)
