Billy Fields

Chair
Community volunteer, neighborhood advocate, and political go-to guy, Billy Fields has served as Chairman of the Davidson County Democratic Party since September 2006. As chair, Fields combines an attitude that welcomes new people and new ideas with years of experience in politics and government.

An active Democrat since his Cub Scout days in Goodlettsville, Tennessee, Fields' political roots work back through several generations of community-oriented and politically active ancestors.

A veteran member of several campaign staffs, Fields' political experience includes statewide races as well as campaigns in Middle Tennessee and, of course, in Davidson County.

Fields knows that political campaigns are just the beginning of good government, and has served the Davidson County community for 18 years as a part of Metropolitan Government. Currently, he serves as Special Assistant to the Director of Codes and Building Safety. He has worked in a variety of roles in the Office of the Mayor and coordinated disaster relief for Davidson County after the 1998 tornado. Prior to joining Metro Government, Fields served as the district administrator and press secretary for Tennessee's Fifth District, The Hermitage District, of the United States House of Representatives.

Fields is an active volunteer in the community, serving as the Chairman of the Board of the Neighborhoods Resource Center. He volunteers for several neighborhood associations, the YMCA, the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce, and other civic groups. He is an alumnus of Leadership Nashville.

Fields was first elected to the Davidson County Democratic Executive Committee in 2002. Fields has served as Regional Vice-Chair, Parliamentarian and Budget Chair for the DCDP.

Fields is a graduate of Goodlettsville High School, and holds degrees from Volunteer State Community College, Austin Peay State University, and Western Kentucky University.

A native of Goodlettsville, Fields resides with his wife Donna in Historic Edgefield in East Nashville. Fields attend Connell Memorial United Methodist Church where Fields has taught Sunday school for two decades and where he leads the church's prayer services.

First Political Memory
I worked for H.S. "Red" Boss when he ran for re-election as Mayor of Goodlettsville. He was my very first political mentor (and the person who sparked me to be a public servant) and I have been hanging out with Mayors ever since.

Guiding Principle
I am a "Golden Rule Democrat"... I try to treat others the way I want to be treated.

Motto
I don't really have a motto, but if I had to have one, it would be "Have fun... everyday."

Heroes
I have always been partial to Andrew Jackson. Of course, he had shortcomings, but his courage was tremendous. FDR fascinates me.

Why He is a Democrat
I am a Democrat because our party is concerned about people at the very basic level. It is a party which challenges itself to provide for those who cannot provide for themselves. Democrats love this country and have defended her in time of war and in time of peace. I believe in our Constitution and continue to share the ideals of the founding fathers and our neighbors of today.

How He God Involved
I became involved because I was asked and I believed.
